Software
The Electronic Scanner Unit has an integral 32 bit microcontroller, this unit can be remotely reprogrammed, ensuring that the controller programs are always kept up-to date.
The 32 bit Microcontroller software is written in Forth, and handles all the electrode scanning functions, including the outputting of the detection of Elvers passage over the electrodes and the automatic calibration to take account of the continual river environmental changes.
The Mini ITX PC's operating system is Microsoft Windows 7, and all the systems control programs are written in Forth programming software.
